1. Establish a calm environment
Avoid distractions such as television or toys around. A calm space helps your baby focus on the meal and explore flavors and textures better.
2. Respect the baby's rhythm
Not all babies eat at the same speed or in the same quantities. Allowing your baby to explore food at his or her own pace makes for a more positive and pressure-free experience.
3. Use utensils appropriate for the baby's stage
Spill-proof cups, soft spoons and suction cups make feeding easier and prevent accidents. In addition, adapted utensils encourage your baby's independence.
4. Offer variety and color on the plate
Babies eat with their eyes. Foods with different colors and textures arouse curiosity and help them accept new flavors.
5. Embrace the mess
Getting dirty is part of the process. Eating is a sensory experience, and by touching and playing with food, your baby learns more about it. Have a sturdy bib, a washcloth handy… and lots of patience.
Making mealtimes easier doesn't depend on big changes — it's the small adjustments that create positive, lasting habits.
